here's a picture of a river
here's a picture of a river with some trees leaning over it.
I found it in your yard last wednesday.
fold it up and put it in the pocket of your pants
cuz I might want to look again later.
there's something about this picture of a river
that feels different from other pictures of rivers I've seen--
and I've seen a lot of pictures of rivers--
the sunlight glinting off eddies and currents,
just beneath the surface of the image
or just beneath the surface of the water, or just beneath the surface
of everyday events. It might help explain why we are disturbed
by sounds these glints and surfaces suggest.
the cacophony that threatens to rise up
when calmly meandering, tree lined rivers are asked to stay so still.
